Therefore, if you are a woman of a dress size 14 or above or a man with a chest larger than 42ins and a waist larger than 34ins, you could potentially become a plus-size model.

However, it does also depend on your height and general build.

If you think you may be suitable for plus-size modelling, the best step is to fill in our form, send us a photograph and wait for us to be in touch.

Once we have all your statistics and information, as well as an idea of your body shape, we can offer you individual advice on how to proceed.

Plus-size modelling has really taken off in recent times.

The fashion industry has not only realised just how essential it is to cater for customers of all shapes and sizes, but the world of advertising has become aware of the importance of reflecting real people.

This means that there are now far more ranges of clothing aimed at those of above average sizes and that those conducting photo and film shoots often request curvy and plus-size models.

And, of course, this all comes as the world in general is edging towards a better understanding that we should all be celabrated for who we are.

Models Direct has always been about body positivity.

We love our models to be of all shapes, sizes, ages, backgrounds and abilities.

Our clients frequently come to us requesting everyday models and we have plus-size models who have been on our books for years.

Among them is Neri – here she explains more about her experience of working with us:

“This journey has been amazing so far, with my agent Molly having my back the whole time and encouraging my curvy self to push forward…

“Whatever happens, taking a chance on myself, was the best thing I did and Models Direct taking a chance on me, has been life changing.”

Neri continues:

“I’ve worked with Models Direct since 2018 and I’ve always had great experiences with my bookings.

“I had another live TV show with Ideal World, modelling a different product and it was a lovely experience.

“The staff there are always so helpful and it’s so nice to go back somewhere, where they know your face.

“Thank you Charlie – always a superstar and the best agent ever!”

If you think you might be suitable for plus-size modelling, don’t hold back!

Get in contact with us and we can discuss it with you in more detail.

Weight and modelling https://www.modelsdirect.org.uk/weight-and-modelling/ Wed, 07 Dec 2022 12:14:16 +0000 https://www.modelsdirect.org.uk/?p=2316 Who says you can’t be successful at modelling with a fuller figure? Certainly not us, and not anyone with an ounce of knowledge of how the commercial modelling industry works. And definitely not the hundreds of happy models that refuse to accept models need to be “size zero” to shine in front of the camera.

There’s nothing wrong with improving any aspect of your life. This could be general health, which we see particularly in the early months of the year after a heavy festive period (“heavy” on our bodies, sleep patterns and our wallets!). Improvements can be made in our careers or to our family life – for example, by trying to focus on spending more quality time with our partners and children. Adjusting and making tweaks to our life is natural for all-round happiness, but that doesn’t mean losing weight is the “be-all and end-all”. Self-confidence is crucial to overall wellbeing, and embracing our figures is far more beneficial in the long run than short-term fads.

We’ve been flying the flag for “plus size” models breaking barriers and raising awareness in the process. As prominent advocators of diversity, we don’t succumb to the myths or pressures of all models looking the same. There are three main reasons for this, namely:

1. We put all our model’s health at the top of list of priorities – be it mental health or physical wellbeing. And if that means a model is content in their looks, it’s irrelevant what their size is.

2. The “zero size” idiom is largely immaterial. If such a phrase is still being used, we’ll leave it on the catwalk, thank you very much. We’re interested in talented individuals succeeding in real modelling jobs, not models working for large fashion houses!

3. Because we supply models to the most varied clients around, we know that models of all sizes and shapes are big business. This is especially true of models that represent the vast majority of the population, which is why a “typical” physical figure is key to a lot of our client’s advertising campaigns.

If you’d like to “add more weight” to the case of even more models being in the spotlight of commercial modelling, check out this

The more the merrier! The more models with fuller bodies we have on our books, the more the message will continue to spread that big is not only beautiful – it’s natural, too!

We need our database of models to mirror the shift in society’s expectations. We also look at each and every person who expresses an interest in being a Models Direct model. Our diligent team of agency professionals have a keen eye for industry talent, so send in your photos and have the confidence to show off your looks to us.

Curves trump wiry waists every time, and all the major clothing labels have now embraced the 21st century by recognising the fact. Come and join the party, and let’s celebrate the anti-size zero revolution!

Embrace the real model in you https://www.modelsdirect.org.uk/embrace-the-real-model-in-you/ Mon, 18 Jan 2021 18:10:27 +0000 https://www.modelsdirect.org.uk/?p=1643 By definition, fashions change.

This is because people change, and companies need to adapt to stay in business. What if retailers – whether online or in the high streets – sold pretty much the same merchandise. Big mistake!

Every large manufacturer has departments dedicated to looking for the “next big thing” or styles that customers need. It’s their responsibility to look ahead, and not to be left behind by competitors. This not only applies in the world of fashion: supermarkets, car manufacturers and record companies (to name just a few) need to have their corporate finger on the pulse. But perhaps the clearest of “fashion evolution” can be seen in the modelling world. After all, not everyone needs a new car or the latest CD / DVD. We all need clothes!

One of the most globally-observed changes in recent trends are seen in “plus size” models. Models of either sex in the “plus size” category have been in demand for years – but it’s only relatively recently that they’ve really come into their own. Now, above all, “plus size” models are in demand…and their popularity shows no sign of wavering. This is good news, but why have they become more popular with clients looking for models?

To start with, let’s eliminate the inverted commas when referring to plus size models. It’s true that there’s a universal definition (and so inverted commas are sometimes necessary to define the term), but larger models are no different to any other, and therefore shouldn’t be distinct by applying provocative punctuation marks.

Though the term is still used, plus size modelling carries no stigma, and is about celebrating all body forms and sizes. Have a look in shop windows, in department stores, at TV adverts and on corporate websites – there’s far more choice for females of size 16 or larger than ever, and more shapely models are flourishing because of it.

Let’s not forget the gents. Larger males are also desirable for a range of advertising purposes. The fact that there are more clothing sizes and styles on the market means more models are necessary to help endorse products for everyone – not just a select few dictated by trends.

Brands need to “go with the times”, and Internet activity is a huge indication of current trends. One of the reasons larger models are now more in demand is because of the surge of social media attention. There are more celebrities with tens of thousands of followers eager to share their habits, interests and gorgeous curves, unconcerned with personal attack or immature criticism. They should be applauded! More people who choose to display their bodies undoubtedly equates to an increase in confidence in others. Curvy figures are far more prevalent in the media these days because people feel more conviction in their actions. Embracing who you are is key to being comfortable. And so it should be!

2020 has been a successful year for models, contradicting the national economic trend. If you want to show off your curves but haven’t done so already, 2021 could be your time to actively be involved in this lucrative and enjoyable side of modelling – and Models Direct will be with you every step of the way. If you’re already a plus size model, continue embracing the plus size movement. It works!

All Model Shapes & Sizes To Be Celebrated https://www.modelsdirect.org.uk/all-model-shapes-sizes-to-be-celebrated/ Wed, 18 Sep 2019 17:15:00 +0000 http://www.modelsdirect.org.uk/?p=1138 At Models Direct ‘size’ is not an issue, it’s all about talent, striking features, attitude and determination – that’s what our agents are looking for.

With the modelling industry evolving it’s refreshing to see that plus size models are featuring on the covers of International magazines and some well known brands have become more diverse in the size and shape of the models they use for their campaigns, but is it enough?

Are all women’s shapes and sizes being celebrated and represented within the fashion and modelling industry?

London Fashion Week ’19 has just come to a close, with the fashion industry and it’s avid followers being treated to incredible new collections and shows from some of the most prestigious designers, but was there enough diversity in the size and shape of the models used to display these incredible garments?

Highlighting the importance of celebrating women of all sizes and to encorouge designers to use larger models is incredibly important and to do this we have seen protests taking place at London Fashion Week by body positive activists and influencers.

Click here to read the article from The Independent – LONDON FASHION WEEK: PLUS-SIZE MODELS PROTEST OUTSIDE CALLING FOR BODY INCLUSIVITY

Fashion is available to everybody and therefore argued a more diverse range of shapes, sizes and disabilities should be represented on the catwalk and within the fashion industry itself.

Models Direct is a commercial modelling and talent agency, therefore we have a more varied demand from our clients for the types of models and talent we represent and have done since the agency was created, this is why ‘size’ is not a consideration for us.

Size Doesn’t Matter After All https://www.modelsdirect.org.uk/size-doesnt-matter/ Thu, 07 Feb 2019 13:32:27 +0000 http://www.modelsdirect.org.uk/?p=942 With such a huge focus on healthy living across the media it is surprising to learn our waistlines are getting bigger and that the plus size clothing market is worth approximately £5 billion and continuously growing…is it any wonder brands are desperately seeking the next top plus size model?!

Plus size modelling is a contentious subject in the media, with brands being slammed for using plus size models in their marketing campaigns and consequently then promoting an unhealthy lifestyle or brands using size 6-8 models and therefore not appealing to the majority – so how can these fashion houses get it right??

Models Direct is the UK’s number one commercial modelling and talent agency. We have a more varied demand from our clients for the types of models and talent we represent and have done since 1990 when the agency was created, this is why ‘size’ is literally just a number for us!

With big name high street brands like ASOS, BooHoo, River Island and Marks & Spencer using plus size models to promote their clothes the demand for plus size models is big.  Now you can use your size to your advantage which wasn’t the case historically in the modelling industry.

Brands pay big money with us for the right plus size model to promote their garments. Some of the top curve models are able to earn up to £20,000 per day!

Models Direct has always represented plus-size models. Average female in the UK is a size 16, so a plus size model can vary from a size 12 upwards. Recently Models Direct has seen a rise in demand for models size 16 and above.

Models Direct currently has 5 plus size models selected for a Very Curve casting – let’s wish them good luck.

Here’s Lisa she had this to say:

“I just wanted to say such a huge thank you to Models Direct!!
I went on my first photo shoot 2 years ago because I was struggling with body confidence, ( I had a breast reduction planned and a huge weight loss dream) the reduction I had but the weight loss didn’t happen as I became quite poorly.
I never planned to sign up to a model agency, it was just to help me feel better and it really did.
So in all honesty I half heartedly filled out my account and never looked at it again and my photos I kept hidden behind my sofa never to be seen by anyone !
It’s really funny because over Xmas we were moving furniture my mum and sisters found the folder and we all sat there laughing at them at how huge I looked ! I was mortified by them and embarrassed .
When you called me I literally thought it was a joke! I thought maybe it’s an open audition and it’s what the agency do before your account runs out – I hadn’t even thought for one second my account was really live.
I spent the morning of the casting writing a blog about self confidence and used the experience as a challenge about facing demons head on, it took me right back to my dancing days (which is another lifetime ago!) when I was always told great dancer but you won’t fit in the costume at all my auditions soul destroying as back then I was only a size 10 but just had these huge boobs that made me look a 16+
To have you call me yesterday with the great news was mind blowing, I’m literally blown away it was so unexpected and I’m so over the moon to just have had that phone call, it was so unexpected !
Fingers crossed for Monday it will either be something to scream about or write about either way
I’m happy with both options
Thank you again for taking the time to call me on your day off it was really appreciated
Lisa x “

#Loveyourself at Models Direct https://www.modelsdirect.org.uk/loveyourself-models-direct/ Fri, 09 Nov 2018 13:28:46 +0000 http://www.modelsdirect.org.uk/?p=848 #Realgirl, #Honouryourcurves, #Bodypositive #Loveyourself………

Body Positivity is a huge subject in the media at the moment and the drive for more diversity in the fashion and modelling world is becoming more and more apparent!

Models Direct is a commercial modelling and talent agency, therefore we have a more varied demand from our clients for the types of models and talent we represent and have done since the agency was created.

So many women (and men!) are influenced by the stereotypical body type we are exposed to on social media and in the fashion industry, but a very small percentage of us fit that mould – hardly any of us. Therefore you could argue it is not relateable to the consumer, but it is how designers and directors want their garments or products to be promoted, although things are changing!

On social media the #bodypositive movement is huge and is growing all the time, with models and major influencers such as @Felicityhayward, @kaisasparkle and many others championing the need for a wider diversity of model sizes in the modelling industry, it is very refreshing!

Models Direct are proud to represent plus size models, though they are not really plus size, they are normal and very beautiful and talented. The average female in the UK is a size 16, so a plus size model can vary from a size 12 to a size 24, simply depends on the the type of modelling they are being considered for.

Models Direct are delighted to be able to represent models of all sizes, such as:

It’s not just women plus size models that are attracting the limelight, plus size male models are also in demand for all sorts of modelling work from clothing ranges to TV advertising roles. Plus size male models are required for magazines, catalogues and other modelling work so if you would like to try male modelling but felt you were not the perfect ‘male model’ size give us a call.

If you would you like more information about plus size modelling for men or women simply click here to find out how you can become a plus size model with Models Direct.

Different Modelling Jobs at Models Direct https://www.modelsdirect.org.uk/different-modelling-jobs-models-direct/ Thu, 13 Jul 2017 10:28:51 +0000 http://www.modelsdirect.org.uk/?p=366 When the word ‘modelling’ flashes in the minds of people, many will instantly think about catwalk and fashion runways. These types of modelling jobs are just one of the many types of work available to people ready to make it big in the fashion industry.

The industry is very dynamic and trends are constantly changing, however at Models Direct  modelling agency we notice there are some types of modelling that are popular year in and year out. These are hair modelling, range modelling, body parts modelling, photographic modelling, child modelling, lingerie and swimsuit modelling, and plus size modelling.

plus size model
Plus size modelling is on the increase

If you want to compete as a hair model you must really have a natural, genetic lucky edge over the competition. This type of modelling job can be quite rare and you need to be experienced in other areas to have a chance of getting in.

Another type of modelling job is child modelling. This is one of the most popular fields now with young mothers who want their child to become a star. Also, many companies use babies and children to represent innocence and honesty to the consumer.

Baby and Child modelling is very competitive and obviously their looks change quickly, so it’s essential parents keep their baby or child portfolio up to date so the agency can represent them as their looks change.

Feet and hands of a model
Have you considered foot or hand modelling?

At Models Direct we often get requests for particular body part models, ie, hand models, feet model, leg models, so you can have just one strong feature to be a successful model. Modelling jobs for body parts models generally pay £100+ per day, but with great representation and a lot of experience, some people can ask for a lot more than that.

There is now a big demand for plus size models in the industry. Brands are now embracing the different shapes and sizes of their consumers so therefore need to use models that represent their customers. Plus models are generally size 14 and above.

Models Direct also represent Fitness models, these models will generally be very comfortable to model gym wear and have a toned and muscular physique.

Models Direct represent plus size models https://www.modelsdirect.org.uk/models-direct-represent-plus-size-models/ Wed, 17 May 2017 13:33:41 +0000 http://www.modelsdirect.org.uk/?p=261 Plus size modelling is now big business for model agencies and the world of modelling. At Models Direct we have a great selection of plus size models.

Today you don’t have to be a size 0 to become a model; many women who are size 14 and upwards are becoming successful female plus size models.

High street brands now offer larger sized clothes many up to Size 18 or 20.  These brands  need to target everyday people who generally range from size 8 to size 20, so the demand for plus size models has grown.

Although advertising is not the only opportunity for larger models, with plus size models now starting to make it to the catwalk for some top designers. There has been a lot of press coverage of this and brands slammed when they use models who look unhealthily thin.

Other plus size modelling work includes footwear, beauty and cosmetic advertising and underwear modelling.

It’s not just women plus size models that are attracting the limelight, plus size male models are also in demand for all sorts of modelling work from clothing ranges to TV advertising roles. Plus size male models are required for magazines, catalogues and other modelling work. Models Direct recently supplied a plus size male model to River Island.
