Our modelling agency, Models Direct, have clients who are looking for models for other types of work not just for capturing images. Working as a modelling extra is also a category our agency focuses on. Let’s delve deeper…

Extra skills are not always necessary

We often supply extras for TV commercials, film, promotional work, outdoor events, trade shows and even the theatre (to name but a few) where our models get the taste for practical work that will involve using more than iconic modelling poses. Cue in acting, singing, dancing, instrumental or any other skills that will make heads turn.

However, even if a model doesn’t possess any of these extra skills to make it as a modelling extra, this doesn’t diminish their chances of landing a role in perhaps a walk-on part such as a public scene like a street gathering, a bustling shopping environment or a celebratory occasion. This is what makes it accessible and appealing for those who may be thinking about what life would be like as a modelling extra. One thing for sure is, it’s a whole lot of fun!

Adding flair to your modelling experience

We like to keep it interesting for our talent otherwise life would be a bore if they were doing the same, monotonous job day in and day out. Modelling is anything but a bore. It’s lively, thriving and delivers an out-of-the-box experience in comparison to some other professions. Working as an extra adds even more variety and zest to a model’s interpersonal skills and CV which is why, if you’re reading this, you should consider going for it too! There are no modelling limitations such as height and body size to worry about – anyone can come forward as a modelling extra and get the chance to star in something quite wonderful and memorable.

What qualities do clients look for in an extra

It’s down to a client’s specification as to who they’re looking for to feature as an extra. Once a model is selected according to a client’s needs, they will want someone who is:

  • Confident
  • Professional
  • Available
  • Flexible
  • Punctual
  • Keen to gain experience
  • Open to feedback

Our work

We have worked with amazing clients who were hunting for extras to complete their marketing vision. Aviva wanted our models onboard for an online commercial focusing on the company’s retirement scheme, whilst Pampers featured our talented models Renaat and Alisha for a cute commercial. Just You, a UK singles holiday company, and Oliver’s Travels, private villa holiday experts also requested our models for commercial purposes where they all whipped up a treat! Have a look through our blogs and Facebook videos to explore more about these ads.

Next steps…

Working as a modelling extra with Models Direct means doors opening for more opportunities. It’s a fabulous way to expand experience in this industry. You can see how it all comes together for marketing projects and earn money for your time and skills.

We’re committed to cultivating an environment that promotes equality, diversity and inclusion. We believe everyone’s unique qualities must be celebrated as they’re critical to our innovation in the modelling world. This helps us get closer to our company’s ethos – opening modelling opportunities for anyone interested in creating another career path at any point in their life. Inclusion isn’t just an initiative at Models Direct. We strive to embed it not just into our core values but throughout our entire workplace setup.

Standing Out In A Competitive Industry https://www.modelsdirect.org.uk/standing-out-in-a-competitive-industry/ Thu, 21 Oct 2021 16:35:37 +0000 https://www.modelsdirect.org.uk/?p=1861 Welcome to all of our lovely models (and maybe prospective ones) who are reading this. If you are wondering how to increase your chances of being booked for a modelling job, you have come to the right blog. You will need to cut through all the noise in the modelling world to get noticed but this isn’t difficult to achieve if you are driven and motivated. Follow Models Direct’s tips below and reap the benefits of improving your prospects of being selected by a client for work.

Current and versatile images

Models are encouraged to compile images that are kept real-time and up to date with their current look as this will be their visual representation for us as well as those all-important clients that will be seeking models for bookings. Clients will want to see how you look as you are right now, not a dated appearance from a few years back as this can sometimes be a real letdown when it comes to the selection crunch. Your portfolio is a true reflection of how you look.

You can add a splash of individuality by putting forward images that demonstrate your creative side and tailor it to your likes and interests. This could entail striking classic model poses, revealing any hidden talents or original settings donning the latest on-trend fashion and makeup looks. It’s really up to you how you want to best present yourself but ensure your images are only about you and exhibit your best and professional self.

List experience

If you can fill us in on any relevant experience you may have had in the past or present then keep us in the loop. Agencies want to know your experience just like any employer would when you are applying for a job. Share your successes so that if you are put forward for an assignment and the client asks for previous experience, we can fill them in.

Communicate with your agency

It’s a good idea to touch base with your agency, so keep in touch. Inform your agent about any important announcements that could impact your chances of work or even increase it. Whatever the message is, your agent is your point of contact so having good communication is key. Also, the lovely thing about being a Models Direct model is that our team is really friendly and down to earth. We appreciate the value of all of our wonderful talent so it’s great when we hear from our models directly about what is going on in their lives and ways we can help increase their exposure to the modelling world.

Models Direct is NOT a showcase agency

We touch upon this factor quite often (it’s important for our readers to know this!) but our modelling agency is not like some of the others that are situated high up on search engines. Models Direct is not a showcase agency where we place our models’ images online and create a proactive image of consistent workflow in the pipeline for all of them. This is practically an impossible task to achieve, let alone misleading. No agency can guarantee work; it’s up to clients to make the ultimate selection from the models an agency puts forward to them. Our agency has always explained this concept and will continue to push out gentle reminders for our readers. We DO help our models increase their chances of being booked and put you forward whenever we can to big name brands around the world. A Guide to Outdoor Photography https://www.modelsdirect.org.uk/a-guide-to-outdoor-photography/ Thu, 29 Apr 2021 16:21:11 +0000 https://www.modelsdirect.org.uk/?p=1741 Have you noticed the change yet?

No, we’re not talking about meeting people outside for the first time in months instead of logging onto Zoom and pretending to listen to what is being said (come on, you’ve drifted off into Zoom dreamland at least once, right?). No, the change is that – at last – the mornings are becoming brighter earlier and the evenings lighter for longer. This means one thing – spring is here, with summer just around the corner!

This time of the year is perfect for dusting off your camera, ready to snap away at your heart’s content. Alternatively, asking a friend to assume the photographer’s role is just as ideal. Either way, April and its subsequent months usually provide just the right conditions to capture glorious, high-definition images. But can you utilise the improved weather in your quest to achieve brilliant snapshots? Follow our quick guide and you could soon be on the right path to having the finest portfolios for all your modelling pictures.

1. What time is it? Choose the time of day wisely. Avoid taking photos under the midday sun – the sun is often too strong and the subjects tend to squint. Instead, opt for late afternoon or early evening or, even better, the last hour before sunset.

2. Choose a short telephoto lens (one that is a minimum of 60mm) – and this doesn’t have to be a zoom lens!

3. Use a tripod to steady both your camera and concentration.

4. Using a reflector helps light reflect back into your subject’s face – the most important part of the photo (unless you’re not taking a portrait, of course…)

5. Select a focal point and stick to it!

6. Use shade to your advantage. Trees, buildings, roofs and even clouds can work wonders to eliminate silhouettes – including the dreaded “shadow under the chin” episode!

7. Experiment with flashes. They are not limited to indoor use, and are often overlooked in the great outdoors.

8. If available, take photos in RAW file – a digital negative that is taken directly from your camera’s sensor.

9. Pay particular attention to your eyes, and check which backgrounds suit your facial and body profiles.

It’s sensible to ask some basic questions at your local camera outlet, and to experiment. Taking photographs should be fun, and outdoor photography is one of life’s pleasures!

It’s always a challenge for models to keep their photographic updates in pristine order. We appreciate that everyone doesn’t have a digital camera, so we by all means accept shots using smartphones.

A quick checklist is:

  • Avoid lots of make-up – you don’t need it, and it won’t show a true representation of your (undoubtedly beautiful) face.
  • The perfect height-width ratio is 5:4.
  • Don’t use Photoshop!
  • Keep it simple, please.
  • Got tattoos, scars, or piercings? Fab – show them all!

Happy snapping!

Looking to the future with Models Direct https://www.modelsdirect.org.uk/looking-to-the-future-with-models-direct/ Tue, 16 Feb 2021 17:02:16 +0000 https://www.modelsdirect.org.uk/?p=1684 “Do not give your past the power to define the future.”

We have been through one tough year and are starting another one on the same note. With restrictions in place, you might have lost some confidence and motivation – in everything that is happening around you or within you. This is normal given the unusual circumstances and the anxiety and pressure everyone may be experiencing now that we have entered 2021.

Models Direct understand that with some deep reflection, it might be that you are looking for new found inspiration and drive to push yourself and take on a new pathway or challenge in your life. Improving your skill set might be what you are looking for so adding a new venture like modelling to your CV could be the perfect addition.

If you have thought about taking up modelling but have been stalling it due to the unpredictability we all faced during 2020, our modelling agency – Models Direct – is here to encourage all potential newcomers to cast their worries aside with our modelling advice.

We continue to have a positive outlook and aim to look onwards and upwards despite the peaks and troughs of 2020. Our modelling expert team works together with confidence, motivation and care for each other and our talented models. For some modelling confidence and success, we’ve compiled a short list of what you can do to improve your self confidence.

1. Persevere and don’t give up

If you want to try out modelling, don’t hold yourself back. Don’t be hard on yourself either if you find yourself feeling anxious or wobbly.

Say positive things to yourself. You are a person with abundant skills and abilities. Don’t doubt who you are and what you stand for.

2. Positive affirmations – keep ‘em coming!”

An excellent and easy way of reinforcing self belief is through positive affirmations. Check online for some great examples to repeat to yourself everyday.

In the meantime here are some of our favourites:

“Self confidence is a super power. Once you start to believe in yourself magic starts happening.”

“Do not give your past the power to define the future.”

3. Don’t be afraid to research and ask questions

No one will ever push through the barriers of understanding new ventures without asking questions. So go ahead and ask us!

This will help you gain confidence as you’ll be better prepared in the industry and will know what’s to be expected from you as a model.

4. Focus on your successes

Remember the times you experienced success – in exams, projects, presentations, interviews and so on. Keep remembering those times! Don’t allow yourself to forget successful moments. Use your memories to boost your confidence in your ability to continue succeeding. Forget “failures” or things you deem as negative, just be you and be positive.

Models Direct have our fingers crossed that by the end of this month there will be some light at the end of the tunnel. Once things begin to slowly open up, we’ll have a colossal amount of requests flooding in for models across all categories – newborns, babies, toddlers, children, teens, adults, seniors, plus-size, petite, big & tall, body parts, bridal, sportswear and so much more.

Even though we predict that the future will be bright, we have been scouting for models wherever we have been able to do so following government guidelines.

Like modelling, any career in the entertainment industry is steered by confidence, self belief, persistence and determination. So, if you have these attributes (or some of them) get in touch with our fantastic team for sound modelling advice.

2020 – what was that all about? https://www.modelsdirect.org.uk/2020-what-was-that-all-about/ Sat, 02 Jan 2021 16:27:13 +0000 https://www.modelsdirect.org.uk/?p=1607 Assignment highlights of 2020

To be fair, the word “highlights” won’t often appear alongside any reference to “2020”, but at Models Direct we’ve had our fair share of success during this difficult year.

The company has thrived amidst the growing threat of COVID, and we’re delighted how our models have adapted to continue their promising careers, whether opting for a one-off job or throwing themselves headlong into numerous assignments. Whatever one’s situation since March, keeping busy and positive was key to maintaining some sort of normality – and sanity. We’re just glad we could keep doing what we do best: placing talented models in exciting jobs with our eminent clients. And long may it continue!

To mark the end of a tough year, we’ve decided to broadcast some notable modelling achievements. We love all our models, but as limited space dictates we can’t honour every single triumph, this piece serves as a celebratory blog to congratulate a select few.

In Strictly Come Dancing style, the votes are in! Grab yourself a glass of champers and join us in toasting some of our distinguished models – individuals, families and even pets!

For “starters”, we were thrilled to help out online food delivery company Deliveroo. Our star model, Julian, praised the whole experience. He said;

“My shoot went really well despite the winds and cold weather. The shoot was conducted professionally and the photographer and onsite director were kind and friendly. Great shots were taken and I’m really happy and excited to be working with Models Direct. I’m looking forward to future jobs with them. Thank you to Models Direct for working with me to make this possible.”

Next up on our celebratory list is adorable pooch Honey-Belle, who scored a sensational assignment modelling for retail giants John Lewis. Honey-Belle was photographed for the company’s At Home magazine, instantly transforming her into a canine superstar for Christmas! She was even given a plate of roast chicken as a treat and a thank you for her efforts. Now, that’s the Model’s Direct treatment!

Eleven of our models got stuck into something more satisfying than the average pastry product when they modelled for legendary bakers Holland’s Pies. Our go-getting bunch consisted of two families and four individuals, proving that group bookings for larger clients are very much sought-after. Additionally, it was a great way to illustrate how modelling work can be achievable even during COVID restrictions.

“Recently, I completed an assignment through Models Direct creating a campaign for Holland Pies. I can honestly say, I thoroughly enjoyed every second of it! From the minute I stepped through the door, everyone was so welcoming and upbeat. The day went so fast and was so well planned by everyone involved. Amazing company and can’t wait to work with them in the future. Thankyou MD”Jack

Our two models Jonathan and Montana brought some festive cheer to help promote the good work done by Centre Point – a charity providing accommodation to 16-24 year olds. Since 2005, Prince William has been their Patron. Montana commented:

“I had a fun time whilst shooting with Models Direct. This is due to the easy-going approach that they took. As a team, we went with the flow and every shot felt natural and the assistant also supported me and suggested different poses to try. They even provided both food and drink and made sure that I was comfortable with everything that we were doing. After shooting inside the youth hostel, the photographer suggested that we go outside and experiment with different poses around Covent Garden, which was very exciting. On the other hand, they contacted me rather late; being on the day of the shoot, leaving me having to rush to make it on time. Overall, I would say that it was a very fun experience and I did not feel judged or over pressured. I would recommend Models Direct!”

Continuing our 2020 roll call, we placed some four-legged stars with notable client Petlab Co. Their owners, suitably pleased with the outcome, beamed, “It was a great experience with Models Direct! This was the first time our little puppies stood in front of a professional camera and they really enjoyed the “work”. The surprise party was fun as well, so thank you for providing us with this opportunity.”

Finally, we couldn’t leave out a cute bunny we provided for Coco & Eve’s Easter giveaway promotion! Animals (and humans) don’t have to have that “ahhh!” factor, but it sometimes helps!

Other 2020 highlights included a social campaign for Sky Sports to encourage customers safely returning to pubs during the pandemic, a group of models appearing in a social media advert for Barclays Bank, and a COVID safety video for Transport for London.

“Models Direct is a great agency. They constantly find me new jobs. Friendly staff always ready to guide you and willing to help.”Santiago

Please have a look at our models reviews to give you more of an idea at how well they have got on during the year.

We’d like to offer a huge “well done” to our team, our models and our clients – without a team effort assignments wouldn’t run as smoothly. Here’s to a happier – and just as successful – 2021. Cheers!

Seven haircare tips for teen models https://www.modelsdirect.org.uk/seven-haircare-tips-for-teen-models/ Wed, 16 Sep 2020 12:28:02 +0000 https://www.modelsdirect.org.uk/?p=1512 If you want to find success as a teenage model, then you need to take care of your appearance and look after your hair.

Going through hormonal changes can take its toll on the hair as well as the skin and if you want to keep yours looking healthy and sleek, you might wish to follow these top tips:

  1. Choose the right shampoo and conditioner for your hair type

Keep going with it for a few weeks to see if it makes your hair less dry or oily but don’t be afraid to try a different product if you are not noticing any difference. The gentler the product, the less damage it will do to your hair: try shampoos and conditioners that are as natural as possible and even hypoallergenic.

  1. Ask your hair stylist for advice

The person who cuts or colours your hair should be an expert and will be only too happy to offer you good advice about products to use, treatments and hair washing regimes. They should also be able to advise you on whether colouring your hair is a good idea and which cuts and styles will work best with your hair type.

  1. Don’t wash your hair too often

It can be very tempting to wash and restyle your hair every day, but you may find that in the long run your hair is healthier if you wash it less frequently. This is because too much washing may well dry your hair out, cause split ends and result in more use of hair styling products. Save the hair washing and heavy styling for important occasions such as photo shoots and modelling assignments.

  1. Think about when you use styling tools

Hair straighteners, blow dryers and other styling tools can damage your hair with overuse. Consider how often you use them and perhaps try to limit this to once a week. Try experimenting with other styles that do not always require the use of tools – it can be exciting to vary your look.

  1. Limit colours and certain treatments

Tempting though it is to experiment with different hair colours, it is important not to do this too often. The chemicals and solutions used in colouring and bleaching your hair can be damaging – as can those used for permanent straightening and waving treatments. Once or twice a year is probably enough.

  1. Get your hair cut regularly

This does not have to mean a complete restyle every time. Sometimes your hair just needs a trim to get rid of split ends. Many hairstylists will offer a lower price for a quick removal of your split ends or trim of your fringe every six to eight weeks.

  1. Do not overbrush your hair

Choose a gentle brush with rounded ends and try not to be too heavy handed with it. Brush your hair gently for just a minute or so. Those with curly hair might find their hair responds better when only brushed after conditioner is applied. Once this is rinsed off and the hair has dried naturally, avoiding brushing can help the hair not to go too frizzy.

Growing in(to) confidence https://www.modelsdirect.org.uk/growing-into-confidence/ Sun, 16 Aug 2020 14:00:23 +0000 https://www.modelsdirect.org.uk/?p=1484 Have you ever asked yourself, “What if…??

Regrets are natural. They could be in your personal life or in your career. You may regret not trying out for a sports team or playing an instrument. Sometimes the reason is logical; at other times a little bit of self-doubt creeps in to ruin a perfectly good opportunity. Occasionally this self-doubt is irreversible: that is to say, once you have a feeling of scepticism or uncertainty, you never get over it and won’t look to conquer these negative sentiments. When this happens, self-doubt has won. They’ll be other chances to beat it, but for now, the only thing that has stopped you in your tracks is a lack of confidence…

Confidence – a “faith” in oneself or one’s abilities – is an important factor in modelling. Let’s go back to the original question, “What if…?” If you’ve ever given real consideration to becoming a model, you might already be half-way there. It’s probably a bit of self-awareness and lack of confidence that has proved the defining obstacle to your modelling dreams.

A lot of people aren’t aware of the genuine prospects modelling can provide: the industry is now openly looking for models of all sizes, shapes, backgrounds, talents and ages (yes, that includes toddlers to the more mature models). And it’s not just clothes or fashion modelling that clients look for either. Unique features are like gold dust, so if you have a distinctive physical characteristic or a particular attribute that stands out, use it to your advantage! Note: we use the word “unique” to mean “special” or “exceptional”, not “different”. As a prospective model, you need to identify your valued assets and have the confidence to take the next step into modelling – and that’s knowing your plus points and getting in touch with Models Direct!

Allow us to be philosophical for a minute. The above definition of confidence is true enough (“A faith in oneself or one’s abilities”), but let’s delve deeper. “Faith” is regarded as a belief without evidence. Here are two examples of confidence and faith, both with different connotations:

1. If you tell a friend that you have “faith” in them in running a full marathon in two hours, you’re not being sincere (after all, no one has ever accomplished a sub-two hour marathon!). All you’re really doing is being over-optimistic to show your support and to psych up your friend. It’s harmless, but ultimately doesn’t mean a lot – you’re not confident at all they’ll be able to run 26 miles in under 120 minutes…who would be?

2. You earnestly tell a would-be model friend they should consider modelling. “But why?” you hear them cry, “I couldn’t do it, could I?” You tell them you have “faith” in their qualities – whether facial features, unique selling points or simply because you know a bit about the industry and what some clients are looking for. You are being genuine in your “faith” because the evidence is there in front of you – the evidence is your friend, staring at you! Your sincere comments then get your friend to thinking about becoming a model. And what did it take? Just a few honest words to increase their confidence. Perhaps, simply, no one ever told your friend they’ve got modelling potential in the first place. What a shame.

Confidence can be either self-appointed or gained. A lot of famous models questioned their potential before their successful careers. In many interviews, Cara Delevingne stated frankly she was bullied at school and felt no sense of self-worth. Look at her now! Leading up to inventing the light bulb, Thomas Edison failed so many times he nearly gave up. But, as we know, he didn’t, and went on to quip, “I have not failed ten thousand times—I’ve successfully found ten thousand ways that will not work.”

There are many things that hold certain people back: children, work, lack of motivation. These are all viable, and people shouldn’t be judged on these alone. A fear of failure is also justifiable, but is easier to overcome. It comes down to needing that spark of confidence to take them to the next level. Don’t give up at the first sign of failure: use it as a learning curve to gain more knowledge and to come back stronger.

Confidence – everyone has the ability to have it and to use it. But treat it with respect. Too much of it can sour a relationship (personal or business) and can even prevent you from accepting help or ideas from others. Use it wisely. “Confidence won’t always produce results, but it will give you the best possible chance.”

Our advice is straightforward. Do a little research, and if you’re seriously thinking about modelling in any capacity, please get in touch. We’ll consider your look and are happy to discuss anything with you. We know what to look for. Don’t look back at a missed opportunity by mulling over the “What if…?” question. Have the confidence to take the first move. After all, you have nothing to lose.

We’ll leave you on a humorous note. There’s one activity where self-doubt is absolutely necessary to avoid repeat disasters: “If at first you don’t succeed, maybe skydiving isn’t for you.” And if you try it again after an unsuccessful first time, you must be really confident. Or bonkers.

Five benefits to being tall..the skies the limit https://www.modelsdirect.org.uk/five-benefits-to-being-tall-the-skies-the-limit/ Sat, 08 Aug 2020 09:34:13 +0000 https://www.modelsdirect.org.uk/?p=1480 Height isn’t necessarily such an issue for a commercial model…but as a model it sure comes with some benefits..

Statuesque, majestic, poised – there are many reasons why those who are above average height should stand tall and feel proud of their size!

Here are five reasons for making the most of a great stature:

  • Standing out

It is well known that tall models can do well in the fashion industry – just look at Jerry Hall and Elle Macpherson – but tall people can stand out in real life too.

Female models above 5ft 9ins and male models over 6ft 3ins can find themselves in high demand for all sorts of catwalk, advertising and promotional work.

But tall individuals can do well in business life too, with research from Sweden, for example, revealing that many CEOs are above average in height.

These successful businesspeople have been shown to display confidence in their own abilities, as well as good leadership skills, and many are thought to be above average in their productivity levels too

  • Health

There are those who believe that tall people may also enjoy certain health benefits.

Research has suggested, for example, that taller women may be at lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes and that both men and women of above average height are less likely to suffer heart failure and coronary artery disease.

Furthermore, a study from the University of Edinburgh revealed those who were taller had a lower risk of dying with dementia

  • Wealth

Believe it or not, height might also have an impact on your bank balance.

Various studies have shown that on average taller men and women earn slightly more than shorter employees and are more likely to enjoy increases in their annual pay.

  • Intelligence

Maybe taller people have every right to look down on the rest of us from the lofty heights – another Scottish study has shown a correlation between height and intelligence…

  • Happiness

This is, perhaps, the most important quality of all.

Taller individuals were on average found to be happier than shorter people, according to an American Gallup study.

The research revealed they were more satisfied with their daily lives, felt more enjoyment and happiness with life and generally felt less angry and stressed than the rest of us.

Add to that, the great view at concerts, the comfort of not feeling the need to wear high heels and the pleasure of being able to reach things from high shelves, it isn’t hard to see why most of those who are tall relish their dizzying heights!

Cool Creatures – Top Tips for Keeping Your Pets Cool https://www.modelsdirect.org.uk/cool-creatures-top-tips-for-keeping-your-pets-cool/ Mon, 20 Jul 2020 15:52:09 +0000 https://www.modelsdirect.org.uk/?p=1470 We might savour the arrival of hotter weather, but some of our furry friends may well not agree with us as scorching days just leave them feeling hot and bothered…

With the warmer weather here it’s important we don’t forget our furry friends and make sure they’re as comfortable as possible and get the pampering they deserve, here are a few useful ways to ensure your pets stay cool this Summer!

It is vital, of course, to ensure any animals are never enclosed in hot spaces, such as cars, caravans or small rooms, without ventilation.

And, whatever the weather, our perfect pets always require good access to plenty of fresh water.

Those with cat, dog or other pet models will be used to transporting their furry or feathered companions and should be well practiced in ensuring they are comfortable.

For other animal lovers, it might be more about looking after their little friends at home or keeping an eye on them while out and about in the park on sizzling hot days.

When it is especially warm, you need to ensure they aren’t overcome by the heat: cool them down and rehydrate them if they seem overly lethargic or wobbly on their legs, for example, or if they start to pant excessively.

If they become sick, unable to stand or even unconscious, however, you should call your vet immediately as heatstroke can be fatal.

Here are some top tips to help keep your pets cool, healthy and happy:

  • If you cannot find a suitable patch of shade for them outside, then bring them inside on very hot days
  • Keep a particular eye on any long-haired pets, as they fair less well in the heat
  • Take plenty of water and a bowl with you when you go on dog walks
  • Cool very hot pets down by pouring cool (not icy) water over their feet or standing them in a bucket of cool water
  • Spraying cool water over them too might help – your cat won’t like it, but it could help to lower her temperature
  • Choose the coolest times of day to take your dogs out for walks or to travel with your pets
  • If you have a very pale cat or dog, they may need sunblock on their ears and noses if they are out in the glaring sunshine on a blistering day
  • Make sure rabbit and guinea pig hutches and pet carriers are positioned in the shade
  • Try elevating hutches and pet carriers to ensure a good stream of cool air
  • Give your pets plenty of wet food, as well as water, because this will also help them to stay hydrated

Models Direct love representing your pets to clients for photographic and filming assignments, get intouch if you think your pampered pet has what it takes in the modelling world!

Creating the perfect holiday at home https://www.modelsdirect.org.uk/creating-the-perfect-holiday-at-home/ Wed, 24 Jun 2020 12:30:09 +0000 https://www.modelsdirect.org.uk/?p=1448 With many of us unlikely to be able to take an exotic Summer holiday this year, we may be wondering how we are going to create the perfect holiday vibe from home?!

Whether you are in the modelling business or another profession, making sure you have a good break from work and a genuine opportunity for relaxation is essential for our health, according to recent research.

A study by Syracuse University, in New York, USA, has revealed that having a holiday can be especially good for the heart, explains Bryce Hruska, an assistant professor of public health at the establishment’s College of Sport and Human Dynamics.

What we found is that people who vacationed more frequently in the past 12 months have a lowered risk for metabolic syndrome and metabolic symptoms. Metabolic syndrome is a collection of risk factors for cardiovascular disease. If you have more of them, you are at higher risk of cardiovascular disease.  This is important because we are actually seeing a reduction in the risk for cardiovascular disease the more vacationing a person does.”

But how do you ensure you really do have a holiday, and the chance to relax and refocus if you are unable to reach the white sands and clear waters of your favourite holiday destinations?

Models Direct’s top tips to holidaying at home…

  • Make sure you really do absolutely no work at all during your time off – don’t be tempted to check your emails or to respond to voicemails. Tell your boss and your colleagues that you are going to do this. Just because you are at home does not been you should be available.
  • If you can plan a few days out during your time off then do. If not, then try to arrange some shorter excursions, walks or cycle rides to places you have never been before and take a picnic or a few treats with you.
  • If you live with friends or family members then take turns at doing the cooking to ensure everyone has some time off. Try to think up fun and exciting menus that you have never tried before, dishes from around the world perhaps…
  • Treat yourself to some new garden equipment, such as a hammock, recliner or bean bag. If you have children, investing in a paddling pool, water slide or other play items will also help them to feel as if they are on holiday.
  • Organise cinema nights, where everyone sits down to watch the same film together and perhaps you treat yourselves to popcorn or other tasty snacks you might not normally indulge in.
  • Adults might also like to treat themselves to cocktails they have not made before or have enjoyed away on holiday and to sit in the garden or by an open window on warm evenings.
  • Splash out on a couple of new holiday reads and make sure you find time to slip off for a quiet hour or two with them on your own.
  • Sleep in, stay up late – your time is your own so you should enjoy not having to set the alarm clock or being bound by a routine.

Summer is a super busy time for photo-shoots and filming work too, it’s the perfect chance for outdoor shoots and the Models Direct team can’t wait to to hear from you!
