At Models Direct we are approached to find female and male models for all kinds of promotional assignments, ranging from major exhibitions and events to in-store and shopping mall promotions and demonstrations.

To be a great promotional model, you don’t have to have done it before, you simply have to be friendly, smiley, confident and approachable.

You have to be proud to represent the brand, product or campaign you will be promoting, and you have to be happy to interact with the general public and chat to passers-by.

So, what else should I know about promotional modelling?

1. It can involve teamwork

Promotional models must have the self-assurance to work on their own; approach members of the public and undertake whatever is required of them. At the same time, however, there is often a team approach to the assignment. They need to be able to work together and support each other. This, of course, can make it great fun….

Some of our promotional models had the opportunity to work with Poundland on a fragrance campaign and had a great time as a modelling team.. (this assignment was pre covid).

2. It can suit people with other talents

You don’t have to be a skilled actor or accomplished musician but do tell us about any special talents you have as this can help. Clients like to employ models who are used to stepping out on stage or performing in public. Perhaps you are a singer or dancer? Or perhaps you are someone with sporting or public speaking experience? Just let us know…

3. It can be ideal for those with good memories

Promotional modelling is perfect for anyone who is quick to learn and great at retaining information. Part of your job may well be to explain about a product or present a campaign. Clients look for models who are bright, eager and intrigued about a subject – then ready to make it interesting to someone else!

This is exactly what happened when some of our promotional models took part in a campaign to help the Fertility Partnership find egg donors.

For the event, artist Stuart Semple created an installation using giant balloons.

Our models were then asked to give some of these valuable items to the public, in turn asking them to pass them on.

Aina Sutka:

“When I first received information about my assignment, I was a little bit worried as I didn’t know anything about fertility treatment, fertility clinics based here in the UK or elsewhere, let alone anything that is connected with egg donation. There was no reason for my worries, because everything was explained, people that I ended up working with were very interesting and their knowledge was on top, the day flew by, because I was intrigued and in that way it helped a lot with passing the information on to the public. Being a mum myself I loved the idea of helping families that struggle in creating a miracle of their life’s. The cause of this assignment was incredibly sincere! It is never too late to try something new. It is never too late to achieve your dreams.”

Chloe Smith:

“We were directed to stop passers-by and give them a balloon; this balloon was only one out of 1000 with a Stuart Semple artwork on it and each was worth £350. We would give these to a passer-by and then get them to pass it on, the idea being just like when you donate your eggs, you are giving away something precious and amazing. It was a great experience and will be a good thing for my portfolio.”

The opportunities for promotional models are endless with brands looking of new ways to promote their products and get noticed in such a competitive environment. Yes, the retail world is quite different at the minute, but not long from now brands will be looking for the perfect models to push their products like never before….

The versatile white top

You probably already know how much we love colour and encourage you to never be afraid to try out hot picks and shades you haven’t tried before. But there is something about having a white top in your wardrobe that makes it a perfect go-to every time you need to pair it up with a pair of jeans, leggings, trousers, maxi skirt or even your pj’s. They go with everything – a staple item that’s perfect for every wardrobe. Whatever suits your style, add a white top to your collection be it a basic t-shirt, smart shirt, lace top, blouse or whatever takes your fancy. Teens, you rock and so will your staple apparel.

Style it up in jeans

Jeans have been around for years keeping millions of wearers confident, happy, and content. They’re so loved and cherished by all ages that some of us can’t live without. Jeans come in all sorts of fits to suit and flatter all body shapes. Whatever cut you’re drawn to – bootcut, jeggings, skinny, girlfriend, boyfriend, mum fit (there’s a pretty long list and we’re sure that our teen readers will know exactly what’s what) – you’ll find a pair that’ll feel super comfy and look super cool. Jeans are versatile and everlasting so pick up a pair if you already haven’t to add to your must-have wardrobe collection. 

Rocking it in sneakers 

Another pair that you can’t do without are sneakers. They feel like you’re walking on air and are very much on-trend. You can’t go wrong with them as they team up well with casual wear and even formal. If you wanted, you could match this pair perfectly with your other must-have statements; your white top and jeans, and you’ll be good to go. Teens will love these, especially for those travelling for study or work.

Earn the extra cool look in a leather jacket 

Leather jackets are stylish and sleek. They can be teamed up with our other key items so really – who wouldn’t want one? Teens, instead of purchasing the real deal, which is usually quite costly, you can opt for alternative leather variants such as PU and faux leather at a cheaper price. But don’t worry though, just because it’s cheaper it doesn’t mean you’ll compromise on quality or style. Plenty of fashion outlets and retailers stock amazing looking faux leather jackets that stand the test of time and make your awesomeness stand out.

Backpacks have been an essential item for a while now. Many people enjoy wearing one as they’re a helpful accessory for keeping those arms free whilst carrying a load of necessary supplies on the back. From school children through to teens at secondary, college and onto university, backpacks have been filling our educational world and essentials for years now and plenty more to come. They’ve become ingrained in student’s checklist of important school supplies.

Now that we’re all easing back to “normality” as best as we can given the current situation, children, teens and adults will be seen sporting the handy shoulder strapped no-nonsense bag on the back that’ll be conveniently carrying their everything.

The student backpack still quite young though – aged around 44 years old. It has gone through some aesthetic changes over the course of its time meeting the ever-evolving demands of its users. What was once a bulky sack of material on the back with leather straps has now morphed into super sleek bags that boast a minimalistic look catering for not just book supplies but electronic devices. Being able to pop in a laptop or gadget is now integral to the designs of backpacks churned out nowadays and even with everything screaming less is more, backpacks certainly don’t appear to be a bag that’ll become obsolete any time soon.

Now that most of the nation’s youngsters are slowly heading back into education, backpacks will be making it into the top ten of crucial supplies and equipment for students, no doubt.

Maximum comfort 

Backpacks are so practical. The fact that they sit on your back, leaving your arms to move freely and not having to worry about anything sliding off your arms or waist – we’re thinking about shoulder bags and bum bags right now – is what makes them so magnetic. The weight of your belongings sits nicely on you in the most convenient way, not pulling you forward, back or sideways and helping the weight become more manageable than carrying in your arms.

You’ll find nifty pouches that you never knew existed if you look hard enough (okay, we might be exaggerating a little here because it depends on the manufacturer, but it is possible). Hands up if anyone wants to let us know if they’ve found a handy compartment they never knew about before.

Great for trekking and going away

The genius idea behind the design of a backpack extends to it being superb for a trek or a going away weekend too. Models who’ve been booked for assignments will definitely enjoy using one to pop in everything they need for walking trips, days out, staycations and going away.
