And our clients also love to see seasonal images of the models we put forward that match their requirements.

Not only does it make the images seem relevant and appealing, but it also shows just how dedicated those particular models are when it comes to updating their e-portfolios.

So what kind of modelling shots should you take in summer?

Well, firstly we do love blue skies and sunshine here at Models Direct – they really do lift any image, don’t they?

But if you are taking pictures on hot days, remember to ask your photographer not to shoot straight into the sun as all we will see of you will be shadow!

Keep the sun behind the camera and try to avoid having the sun shining right in your eyes, as we also don’t want to see you squinting in any of your pictures!

With summer shots, think summer clothes. We’d love to see you wearing something light in both colour and fabric.

Pretty little child 2-3 year old playing at beach over sea at background in sun light outdoors. Small kid wearing summer clothes outside. Vacation season. Childhood.

Hold you sunglasses in your hand or push them up on to your head – sunglasses on means we can’t see your eyes!

Likewise, try to avoid wearing any kind of sun hat or scarf that obscures any part of your face.

We don’t mind one photo where an item of clothing covers the top of your head but we will need to see other photos of you where we can clearly see your hair colour and style.

Finally, when updating your e-portfolio this summer, remember to let us know if there have been any changes.

If your phone number or email address is different to when you last gave us your details then take the opportunity to update them now.

If we can’t get in touch with you then we won’t know if you are interested in a particular job or not!

And, of course, do also tell us about any recent experience you might have had that could be relevant to your modelling work.

The changing seasons are a great time to remember to refresh your e-portfolio in every way and summer is no exception.

After all, believe it or not, the sun may be out but we are already busy selecting models right now for our clients’ autumn and Christmas campaigns!

Spring is here…time to grab your camera https://www.modelsdirect.org.uk/spring-is-here-time-to-grab-your-camera/ Fri, 06 Mar 2020 13:39:25 +0000 http://www.modelsdirect.org.uk/?p=1332 Spring is in the air….it’s time to update your portfolio pictures!

With the longer days and a glimmer of sunshine, now is the perfect time to get outside with a friend or family member and start snapping some up to date pictures of yourself.

The quality of your images on your portfolio plays a huge part in your success as a model, client’s will be looking for someone who stands out, is confident infront of the camera and is versatile – all of these factors can be seen from the images you choose to upload on your portfolio. This is something the Models Direct team talk to models about often, it’s so important and can make all the difference to the success of your modelling career!

It’s not essential for the pictures to be done by a professional photographer as this can be costly, but they do need to be of a high quality to represent you in the best possible way. By updating your images you are making sure that the client will be selecting you from your current look and are seasonal too.

Top Tips to the best portfolio pics:

  • Make sure there is lots of natural light! Ideally take the pictures outside, but if this is not possible then ensure you have lots of natural light around you. Artificial light can create different tones, so try to avoid yellow tinted lighting or low lit areas. When taking photographs outside make sure there are no shadows across your face and that you are not squinting if looking into the sun. If it’s a particularly sunny day it may be best to take the the pics early morning or late afternoon when the sun is lower and the light is softer.
  • Keep your backgrounds simple, busy backgrounds can detract from you and therefore you will not stand out so much to a client. Look for plain walls, or clear scenes where the focus of the image is you!
  • Think about what you wear for your shoot, make sure the clothes reflect you and you feel confident in them, if possible change a couple of times to show other looks, ie, a casual look, smart look, sporty, etc..
  • The quality of the photograph is important too, make sure you have the best possible equipment and the images are saved as large files, this will ensure the picture is sharp and avoid it being pixelated.
  • Try to relax infront of the camera, this is not always easy, but the more pictures you have taken the easier it gets and the more natural the shot will be. Ideally show your personality and style in the shot, this will appeal to the right client and hopefully secure you the type of work you want to do.

Our looks change, we may not think they have much, but for a client it is so important they are viewing models pictures that are current and are an accurate and true reflection of that model.

So what are you waiting for?? The sun is shining…..grab your camera and go and have some fun!! The Models Direct team can’t wait to see the results!!

How to make the BEST of your online portfolio https://www.modelsdirect.org.uk/make-best-online-portfolio/ Thu, 05 Jul 2018 11:17:14 +0000 http://www.modelsdirect.org.uk/?p=671 Models Direct’s agents explain daily the importance of making the best of your online portfolio, it’s what the client’s see when you are put forward for potential work, so how can you make sure you stand out above the rest?

Photographs: –   It is surprising how many models do not update  their photographs once  they are on the books. Your application pictures may have been good, but when being put forward to clients it’s important to have a variety of great shots, to show your personality and how versatile you are infront of the camera.   Keeping your photographs seasonal can also make a big difference too, if a client is viewing you in a search during the Summer months seeing you wrapped up in the snow isn’t ideal, so be sure to update your photographs as the seasons change!  Regular updates also means that if any of your looks have changed, ie; hair, weight,  tattoos/piercings etc , clients are viewing you as you are at that moment which is essential  if you are then selected for the assignment. Make sure your photographs are clear, taken in natural light and have a plain background, this will make you stand out and more likely to catch a client’s eye when they are sourcing the next face for their new campaign!

These are examples of ideal images for  a portfolio:

Statistics: –   Depending on the nature of the assignment your measurements will be essential and therefore need to be accurate . Make sure  your portfolio is completed  fully and you include all your measurements. If your body shape changes for any reason  be sure to amend your measurements online as it could make all the difference of you being selected for a particular job or not.

Experience: –  Clients   will be keen to know if you have any experience and  if so what kind of experience you have in the industry. Sometimes a client will not mind whether a model is experienced or not and their budget may reflect that, however for some assignments the client will specifically request models with experience and their budget will be a little higher. Again this can be information that will make the difference of you being selected, so it’s important to include these details on your portfolio.

Additional Talents:-  Models Direct works with a diverse selection of  clients across the UK and Internationally, often clients will be looking for models or actors, musicians, voice overs and presenters, so it’s not just about your looks! Additional talents are a huge benefit in this industry, and open up other opportunities for you.   Models Direct supply all sorts of talented people to clients  for  exhibitions, shows, events and acting roles, so don’t be shy to share you skills and shout about yourself!

Your portfolio is  an equivalent to a CV , it needs to show you at your best and include all the information a client would be looking for to book you for a potential job. Models Direct will put you forward for suitable assignments, but it’s up to the client who they select!
